Forum on bus services

busesHARLOW Council is hosting a public forum for residents to discuss how Harlow’s bus services and facilities can be improved.

While Harlow Council manages the town’s bus station it is not responsible for any bus services however it recognises the importance of ensuring people receive high-quality bus services.

FOLLOWING a review of access to and the quality of bus services in Harlow it was agreed a Harlow Bus Users group be set up to further develop the facilities and services on offer.

Chaired by Paul Schroder, the council’s regeneration cabinet portfolio holder, the group is inviting residents and groups with an interest in the services provided to meet with bus operators and Essex County Council to share their views, concerns and ideas.

Mr Schroder said: “While the council is not responsible for any bus services, as a community leader it has a duty to ensure services that run in Harlow do so with residents’ best interests in mind.

“It is hugely important that the local transport services are the best that they can be.

“Events such as this forum give people and organisations the opportunity to play an active part in making improvements to the local bus network to help Harlow’s residents’ ability to get around.”

The forum will be at the Civic Centre, Harlow, between 7pm and 9pm on July 24.

In certain areas of Harlow the bus service is appalling. I live along Maddox road and we used to get served by the number 8 bus every 20 minutes but since this has been re-routed, we now receive a very intermittent service provided by the 541 hourly, and the LCB 2 every 30 mins (if at all) but only up until 4pm. I have waited so long sometimes, that I have had to walk instead. I consider myself lucky enough to be able to do this, a lot of my pensioner neighbours are unable to. Coming back from the town is no better, I have stood at the bus station for over an hour sometimes, only to see tons of buses to other parts of the town come and go, before having to rely on my legs again. The buses to this area are always well used so come on Harlow, lets get a good service returned on this busy route.
