THE NHS Trust Development Authority (NHS TDA) has today confirmed the appointment of Sheila Childerhouse and Frances Pennell-Buck as interim non-executive directors of the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust.

Dr Geoff Harris, interim chair of the Trust said: “I am delighted that we have been able to appoint two hugely experienced and successful non-executive directors. The skills and experience both Sheila and Frances bring will help continue to drive the service forward as we maintain a relentless focus on improving services to patients.”

Sheila Childerhouse has a wide breadth of experience within the public, health and voluntary sectors. She has served for various local and regional health bodies since 1984 in non-executive and chair roles, including interim chair of The Queen Elizabeth Hospital King’s Lynn NHS Trust in 2005 and chair of the national NHS Confederation Rural Sub Group from 2004 to 2012. Recently she was chair of NHS Norfolk and Waveney and deputy chair of the East of England Development Agency.

Frances Pennell-Buck has 30 years’ experience of commercial, business development and change management in both public and private sectors. She has held a number of non-executive roles within the NHS. Recently Frances was deputy chair of NHS North East London and the City, and chair of NHS Outer North East London. She is a specialist adviser for the UK Trade and Investment department on medical technology.

Frances and Sheila will be working closely with EEAST chair Dr Geoff Harris and chief executive Andrew Morgan, together with the executive team, to assure delivery of the Trust’s turnaround plan and response to the independent governance review. Their support and expertise will enable the Trust Board to continue to lead the organisation and to drive through performance improvements.

Meanwhile, the Trust is making good progress with the campaign to recruit additional substantive non-executive directors. Interviews are scheduled for the late summer and appointments may be made in early autumn. Vacancies for the additional non-executive directors are being advertised on the NHS TDA website at: http://www.ntda.nhs.uk/2013/06/27/eastamb_nhs_trust/ [1]. The closing date for applications is 22 July 2013.

Non-executive appointments to NHS Trusts made by the NHS TDA are subject to the Code of Practice of the Commissioner for Public Appointments.

Both Sheila Childerhouse and Frances Pennell-Buck have been appointed for up to six months from 15 July 2013, and they are each entitled to receive a remuneration of £6,157 per annum
