THE Year 7 and 8 students at Burnt Mill Academy, in First Avenue, Harlow, have seen their work published in a book which has now gone on sale.

The second Burnt Mill Academy anthology features work from those students who could benefit from some extra incentive with their literacy.

Professional author Steve Parker has been holding regular sessions with the students, inspiring them to get their thoughts down on paper in a range of different styles.

English teacher Sarah Adenuga said: “The whole idea is to boost students’ confidence and enthusiasm for writing. Their creative skills have flourished.

“The book is full of pieces of different lengths – some are stories, others are poems – all on the theme of sport. Some even wrote news reports to show writing doesn’t have to be a boring subject and comes in many forms.

burntsport“I have been so impressed with the work the students have produced and they are really proud of having their writing published.”
