HARLOW Chorus will present Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man – a Mass for Peace next saturday.

A grant from the Harlow Recreation Trust has enabled the chorus to engage the top London orchestra Brandenburg Sinfonia for this concert and soloist, Scottish/New Zealand soprano Kirstin Sharpin.

Pupils from Henry Moore Primary School and Passmores Academy are also taking part, as is the Chorus’ training choir the Harlow Chorus Academy, all of which adds up to a formidable array of talent onstage. Alexander Chaplin conducts.

The first half begins with the Five Negro Spirituals from Tippett’s oratorio A Child of our Time followed by three pieces from Howard Goodall. Howard is well known for his catchy theme tunes for TV shows, such as Blackadder and Red Dwarf, but has also written more serious pieces.

In memoriam Anne Frank was written to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Anne’s death in Bergen-Belsen concentration camp while They Were Not Here commemorates the 50th anniversary of VE day.

The venue for the concert is Passmores Academy in Traceys Road, Harlow, on Saturday, November 9, at 7.30pm.

Tickets are £15 with £12 concessions (£6 for under 16s) and can be bought online at http://www.harlowchorus.ticketsource.co.uk, from Julia Dimon on (01277) 362440 or by email to [email protected].

Tickets will also be available on the door.
