THERE are reports that a former nurse at Princess Alexandra hospital has died in the Philippines typhoon.
Jeffery Ducusin, worked as a staff nurse at the hospital for 10 years but he returned to the Philippines earlier this year.
His six-year-old son Jiro, a former pupil at St Luke’s primary School, is missing.
It is understood that Jeffrey’s wife Joy, a fellow nurse, survived.
PAH chief executive Melanie Walker wrote to staff to extend her sympathies.
She said: “I am sure like me you have watched coverage of the Filipino typhoon disaster with a growing sense of horror and immense sympathy that nature can be so destructive and bring death and destruction to so many thousands of people.
“Our thoughts are with all those directly involved but, of course, particularly with our own contingent of Filipino staff who work so hard alongside us at the PAH.
“One member of staff, who has lost family, has returned home and we are ensuring all our Filipino staff, indeed anyone directly affected by the disaster, is given full and appropriate support.
“The UK Disasters Emergency Committee is now co-ordinating donations on behalf of 14 charities at www.dec.org.uk and gives details of the many ways we can make donations through the website, banks, post office or text.”
