The Harlow Town Centre Partnership has organised an extravaganza with three events taking place in one evening, offering a variety of music and entertainment for the whole family. Activities will be taking place in Stone Cross Market from 4pm to 5pm, Harvey Shopping Centre from 5pm to 6pm and The Water Gardens from 6pm to 7pm, with each area hosting a stage offering performances from both local primary and secondary schools, Hip Hop Pop and the cast of this year’s Harlow Playhouse Panto Dick Whittington, as well as special performances from up-and-coming singer Anttix and boy band M.A.D.
As well as music and dance entertainment, the town centre will be filled with a number of street artists, from a stilt-walking Ice Maiden to the Flying Angels. Pets’ Corner will also be bringing along reindeer and, for that extra special touch, The Water Gardens will be home to a giant snow globe, where members of the public will be able to go inside and get their picture taken for free.
Bryan Young, Co-Chair of the Harlow Town Centre Partnership, said: “The annual Christmas lights switch-on event is an opportunity for the town centre to give back to the community, but for us to highlight what Harlow and the town centre has to offer, and this year will be no different.”
Beryl Murphy, Co-Chair of the Harlow Town Centre Partnership, said: “With all three centres coming together we can highlight the town centre as being at the heart of Harlow’s community, but as a shopping destination with a lot to offer to both residents and those further afield.”
Councillor Tony Durcan, Portfolio Holder for Resources and Enterprise, said: “The Christmas lights switch-on is always a great event for the residents of Harlow and, coupled with the start of Thursday late-night shopping and free parking in the run-up to Christmas, provides an extra boost to local retailers with more people able to come and do their shopping in Harlow for longer.”
As well as the switching on of the Christmas lights, the event also marks the launch of Thursday late-night shopping in Harlow, with free car parking available between 3:30pm and 9pm on 21 November and from 5pm until 9pm every Thursday from 28 November until Christmas. The free parking will be available in Post Office Road, the Harvey Centre car park and The Water Gardens.
