STEWARDS Academy celebrated their first “Reading Week” last week.
The week’s activities ran alongside the other reading schemes that are in operation at Stewards and were intended to highlight the benefits of reading to students of all ages and at all stages of school life.
Activities included students completing a reading booklet with book related quizzes, word searches and crosswords, a write a book review competition, and staff departmental readings in the library at lunchtime, which were very well attended by students.
The week culminated in students and staff coming to school dressed as their favourite literary character to raise money for Children in Need and charities supporting recovery work in the Philippines.
Other reading weeks are planned to take place throughout the year.
Reading Manager Simon Ginger said: “Reading week proved to be a really enjoyable way of underlining the importance of reading for pleasure, whilst raising money for charity”.
