Update: 1915 hrs
ALL three emergency services have been responding to a two vehicle road traffic collision. Three people have been seriously injured in the collision between two buses, a school bus and a local passenger bus, at Coopersale near Epping.
A teenage girl, on the school bus, and the male driver of the other bus have been released by firecrews after being trapped in the vehicles. The bus driver has been taken to Addenbrookes Hospital by air ambulance for treatment to injuries which are believed to be life changing. The teenage girl has been taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH), in Harlow, for treatment to serious injuries which are not believed to be life threatening. Another pupil has also been taken to PAH for treatment to injuries believed to be serious but not life threatening.
A passenger on the local bus was also slightly injured in the collision and has been taken to PAH for treatment. Two other walking wounded have been checked by paramedics at the scene and released.
Police are currently trying to establish how many passengers were on the local bus as many of those on board both vehicles left the scene and walked towards Epping where relatives and friends have picked them up. There have been no other reports of serious injuries but police are appealing for any passengers who left the local passenger bus before police arrived to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 101. They would also like to hear from any witnesses to the collision who they have not yet spoken to.
The collision happened at Epping Road, near the junction with Coopersale Common Road at about 4.27pm. Both buses had been heading towards Epping when the collision occurred near a bus stop, although the school bus was thought to have been stationary.
Traffic is currently being diverted through Thornwood and drivers are urged to avoid the whole Epping, Thornwood, North Weald area as Epping Road is likely to remain closed for several hours while a police investigation is carried out.

POLICE are at the scene of a road collision involving two buses at Coopersale near Epping.
Officers were called to Epping Road at 4.27pm today, Wednesday November 20, following reports of a collision between a school bus and local bus near the junction with Coopersale Common Road.
Fire and ambulance crews are also on scene and are dealing with a number of casualties. Two people were trapped and are believed to have serious injuries.
The road has been closed at The Plain Epping and at Woodside. Traffic is currently being diverted through Thornwood.
