New M11 junction roadshow to come to town

A SERIES of public exhibitions about the proposed motorway junction on the M11 at Harlow comes to town next month.

The exhibitions will be the first opportunity for householders, drivers, businesses and other interested parties to view proposals for the Junction 7a scheme and offer feedback.

The eight-week tour of public exhibitions will be held at six venues from December 2 this year until January 31, 2014. The exhibitions will be on display at Harlow Civic Centre and Epping Library for the full eight weeks and at North Weald Library for one week.

Display boards will show how the new junction joins into the existing road network within Harlow and the improvements needed to cater for the scheme and future growth of the town.

There will also be staffed events at Old Harlow Cricket Club (December 3), Churchgate Hotel in Old Harlow (December 5), Sheering Village Hall (January 10) and Harlow Civic Centre. Officers will be on hand on these dates to provide further details and answer any questions.
The scheme is being promoted by Essex Highways, a strategic partnership between Essex County Council and Ringway Jacobs.
County councillor Rodney Bass, cabinet member for highways and transportation said: “The current M11 junction 7 is at capacity, meaning it regularly suffers congestion and is a restriction on the future growth and development of Harlow. The proposed new junction looks to address this situation and also allows for the future growth and regeneration of Harlow, which could not happen without major road improvements.

“As with any travel improvement, it is important that people’s views and opinions are taken into consideration and I encourage as many people as possible to attend the exhibitions and have their say.”

People attending will be able to comment and a short questionnaire will be available online. Those not able to attend the exhibitions can find out more about the proposed new M11 junction 7a plans by visiting www.essex.gov.uk/highways for more information.
