ESSEX County Councillor Ray Gooding, Cabinet Member for Children and Families, has expressed his thanks to all the young people who took the time to get involved in the consultation on Essex youth services.
The council has seen an unprecedented response to the consultation, not only from young people and their families, but also from community groups, youth councils, local authority partner agencies and the third sector, all of whom state support for the service.
Cllr Gooding said: “I have been overwhelmed by the poems, videos, blogs, drawings and petitions that the young people of Essex have taken time to produce. It is clear to me the strength of feeling towards the youth service and how important it is considered to be. I have learnt a great deal from my face to face meetings including how much young people value having a place to meet their friends and the support provided by youth workers. I have found this consultation to be one of the most rewarding to be involved with and have been incredibly moved by the individual stories young people have shared with me during my meetings with them.”
All consultation responses and comments will now be collated and analysed so as to produce a final report. The report will be received by Councillor Gooding in December and he will spend time discussing with officers and the political leadership team what the future design of the youth services could look like before any decision is made.
The local authority will look to make a decision in January 2014.
