Athletics: Strong showing for Harlow in X-Country league

HARLOW Running Club competed in the first round of the East Herts and
West Essex Cross Country League on Sunday at a very muddy 5 mile
course at Ware. The league consists of teams from Harlow, Bishop’s
Stortford, Saffron Walden and Ware with the final league winners going
on to compete in a national final. Harlow suffered from missing some
of their top end runners, the ladies team finished 3rd, the men 4th
and combined were 4th. This first round was won by Ware with Saffron
Walden second and Bishop’s Stortford third. First Harlow lady to
finish was Julia Gardiner in 4th place and 2nd Lady Vet 35 with Paula
Reynolds not far behind in 5th place and 3rd Lady Vet 35 and Sharon
Wright 10th. First Harlow man was Rob Lowe in 12th place and 2nd Vet
40, Alan Broughton 24th and Daniel Jephcott 36th. John Tennant
finished 47th and 1st Vet 60 and Roy Steven was 51st and 2nd Vet 60.

At the Gunpowder Parkrun 5K at Waltham Abbey Jamie Jephcott won the
event by finishing 1st out of 83 finishers in an excellent 18min
45sec. He was followed by son Daniel 3rd and 1st Junior in 20min dead
and Richard Solomons 13th and 1st Vet 60 in 21min 30sec.

At the Chelmsford Parkrun 5K Janice Page finished in 75th place out of
220 finishers and 1st Lady Vet 50 in a superb 23min 48sec and husband
David was 84th in 24min 17sec.

At the Southend 5 Mile race Robin Lozeau finished 33rd out of 329
finishers in a personal best time for the distance of 37min 42sec.
