Key time for the Stop Harlow North campaigners

News / Tue 25th Feb 2014 at 10:56am

YH HAS dropped in on the Stop Harlow North (SHN) website to see how they were responding to the latest plans proposed by East Herts District Council.

The SNH website states:

“The Stop Harlow North campaign is busily working away preparing for the East Herts Council District Plan Preferred Options Consultation. This next consultation will run from February 27th to May 22nd.

East Herts Council must prepare a District Plan to guide development for the district.

Currently the Plan includes the following Policy “GA1 Land in the Gilston Area” which states that “To meet long-term needs, land in the Gilston Area is identified as a Broad Location for Development”. Once identified as a broad location for development there will be no defence against any future planning application.

We need to ensure a massive response rejecting the principle of development in the Gilston area

The policy goes on to say “East Herts Council will test through a Development Plan Document (DPD) the feasibility of land in the Gilston Area to accommodate between 5,000 and 10,000 new homes (overall looking beyond this plan period) and supporting uses and infrastructure …”

We will need to give East Herts Council clear evidence that residents do not want major building on the green fields north of Harlow.

In the next few weeks our campaign will set up a response form on our website and we will be distributing preprinted postcards as well. You will be also able to write directly to the Council or respond via their IT system. We will write to you again when the website is ready.

We will need volunteers to help distribute leaflets in the villages and towns in late March/ April. Please get in contact if you can help. Many hands make light work.

Hunsdon Parish Council is also hosting a public meeting at 7.30pm on March 17th in the Village Hall. Cllr Carver will be attending and we hope he will be able to explain why East Herts Council has suddenly abandoned its long held and widely documented opposition to development north of Harlow in East Herts. All are welcome.

Mark Prisk MP, has been invited to the public meeting and he has already written to us saying “Let me first of all confirm that I remain of the view that the proposed development of 5,000 or more houses on the land owned by Places for People would be, as far as I am concerned, unsustainable”

A further public meeting will be arranged in the High Wych/Gilston area in April. Sawbridgeworth town Council have also organised exhibitions at the Memorial Hall where you can view the plan materials on Saturday, March 1st and Saturday, April 5th.

This consultation is vital to killing the idea of Harlow North. This really is the last chance to avoid the land being allocated for development in this Plan. Please spread the word.

Please send this newsletter on to all you friends and family and ask them to sign up to the campaign via the Join Us page on the website (www.stopharlownorth.com). You can also follow us on Facebook at ‘STOP Harlow north’.

Of course the campaign always needs donations to pay for printing and advertising and just to keep the website going. If you can make a small contribution it will be gratefully received. Cheques should be made payable to ‘STOP Harlow North’ and sent to Treasurer, C/O Yewtree House, High Street, Hunsdon, Herts, SG12 8NT.

“We will be in touch again soon with more details of how to respond to the consultation.”
