STAFF and students at Harlow College observed a two-minute silence at 11am today to commemorate Armistice Day.

All staff were encouraged to mark the moment in an appropriate way and given the freedom to do so. For some staff and students the college’s poppy display, which was planted to mark one hundred years since World War One, was the ideal location.

Deputy Principal Paul Marsh said: “It’s a day of national commemoration of people that have given their lives for the freedom of everybody, including ourselves, and all the young people here have got a bright future because of it.

We’re the first generation not to have known worldwide war. Our poppy display is all part of raising people’s awareness.“
