ST Mark’s students, Trinity Margery, Lucus Wright, Marcus Wright, Sebastian Johnston, Luke Corless and Kayleigh Shimmen were privileged to be invited to participate in the annual tree planting day at Heartwood Forest near St Albans in Hertfordshire.

The students were selected as they are keen members of the Ecology Club. On the day, there were over 150 people, mainly adults, from the School Planner Company and the Woodland Trust. The aim of the day was to plant 3000 native trees, and the St Mark’s students worked hard to plant over 100 of these.

Science teacher, Mrs Morrison said: ‘The ground was very stony, but we were given small-bladed shovels and the damp conditions made it easier to dig.

“The students were an absolute credit to St Mark’s and they worked non-stop, planting their own quota of trees and then offering a helping hand to the other participants.’
