Athletics: Harlow impress at X-Country league

HARLOW Running Club competed in the East Herts and West Essex Cross Country League Mob Match, a non competitive 5 mile race run as a prelude to the events awards ceremony. HRC finished 2nd team on the day with Ware Joggers 1st, host club Hoddesdon Tri 3rd, Bishop’s Stortford RC 4th and Saffron Walden Striders 5th. Sharon Wright was victorious in the Ladies race finishing 1st out of 25 finishers in a superb 39min 11sec. She was followed home by Janice Page 6th and 2nd Vet 45 in 43min 38sec, Sandi Rust 7th and 3rd Vet 45 in 43min 40sec, Michele Aitken 13th in 46min 04sec, Karen Moir 14th in 46min 25sec and Joy Hale 23rd in 52min 03sec.

In the Men’s race Jamie Jephcott finished in 2nd place out of 34 finishers and 1st Vet 40 in an excellent 31min 39sec. He was followed by Rob Lowe 3rd and 2nd Vet 40 in 31min 53sec, Alex Smith 11th in 35min 25sec, Adrian Fell 12th in 35min 45sec, Len Saterley 19th in 37min 35sec, Pete Brewin 22nd in 38min 48sec, Andy Ramage 24th in 40min 10sec, Robin Lozeau 27th in 41min 49sec and Terry Pike 32nd in 46min 10sec. Afterwards at the award ceremony HRC Ladies finished 3rd in their event with the Men in 5th place and overall HRC finished a disappointing 5th place.

HRC were more successful in the individual awards with Sharon Wright runner up in the Senior Ladies category and Julia Gardiner winner of the Vet 35 category. Rob Lowe was runner up in the Men’s Vet 40 category and John Tennant and Alan Cootes were !st and 2nd in the Vet 60 category.

Meanwhile Andy Kinney completed another Marathon double. He finished the Marathon Day Marathon, so called because it was a 26.2 mile race run on the 26/2, run along the sea front at Deal in Kent finishing in 71st place out of 87 finishers in 5hrs 10min 50sec. Then a few days later he ran the hilly multi-terrain Cambridge Boundary Run Marathon finishing in 186th place out of 211 finishers in 5hrs 45min 51sec.

At the Berkhamstead Half Marathon Richard Solomons finished in 212th place out of 1010 finishers and 2nd Vet 60 in a superb 1hr 40min 33sec.

At the Harlow Parkrun 5K Louise Tankard finished in 9th place out of 110 finishers and 1st Lady in an excellent 22min 02sec. She was followed home by Jim Bates 26th and 1st Vet 70 in 25min 02sec, Robin Lozeau 28th in 25min 08sec, Alan Cootes 33rd in 25min 39sec, Alan Wellbelove 52nd in 28min 57sec and Deborah Bodhanya in a personal best time for the distance of 34min 16sec.

At the Gunpowder Parkrun 5K at Waltham Abbey Jamie Jephcott finishers in 3rd place out of 120 finishers and 1st Vet 40 in a fantastic 18min 48sec. He was followed by Jason Haigh 10th in 20min 37sec and Debbie Barry 51st and 2nd Lady Vet 50 in 25min 21sec.

At the Panshanger Parkrun 5K at Hertford Sean Flynn finished in 36th place out of 185 finishers in 24min 15sec.

A late result from the previous week Terry Pike finished the Barcelona Half Marathon in 8940th place out of 12,493 finishers in 1hr 59min 09sec.
