The national awards are aimed at recognising the employers and organisations who have demonstrated a commitment to delivering high quality care and developing their workforce.

The Adult Operations team is responsible for caring for the county’s vulnerable adults by offering appropriate assessments, reviews, safeguarding and care to meet the needs of residents. Newly qualified social workers join the Assessed and Supported Year in Employment Programme, which supports them as they learn to put the skills they’ve developed in the classroom into practice.

Praising the programme, the judges said: “Essex County Council views the Assessed and Supported Year in Employment as an important means of driving forward service improvements in adult services to bring to life its organisational vision” and that “the council has invested significant resources to ensure that the scheme meets the requirements of the organisation.”

Skills for Care CEO, Sharon Allen said: “We know the first year of practice can be a tough one for newly qualified social workers and the judges were highly impressed by the innovative work the Adult Operations team have done to support them across the council. This was a deserved win in a very competitive category.”

Talking about receiving the Skills for Care award, Karen Wright, Director for Adult Operations: Practice and Development, said: “I was really proud to be part of the contingent receiving the award, which belongs to everyone involved in supporting newly qualified social workers.”
