Return to nursing event at Princess Alexandra set for July

News / Wed 17th Jun 2015 am30 09:46am

PRINCESS Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT) in Harlow, Essex will be hosting a recruitment event for nurses who are interested in returning to practice on Monday 13 July 2015.

This is an unmissable opportunity for Band 5 nurses who have already completed a Return to Practice course, or those who are interested in taking the course, to join a large, dedicated nursing team at PAHT.

The event is by invitation only; to qualify you must apply for the Return to Practice Recruitment Event role on the NHS jobs website*. Only successful applicants will be invited to attend the event. Invitations will be sent out via the NHS jobs website. The closing date for applications is 5 July 2015.

Successful applicants will meet at Parndon Hall at Princess Alexandra Hospital at 10am for a series of presentations from our nursing staff about our visions and values. You will also have an opportunity to meet our Chief Nurse, Professor Nancy Fontaine.

During the second half of the event, they will participate in a group assessment before completing a 30 minute job interview.

For those who need to re-join the nursing register, the RTP course refreshes the key skills needed in the nursing profession and consists of classroom and placement-based learning over a three month period.

There are no RTP course fees to pay and those who are successful following the Return to Practice Recruitment Event will be guaranteed a placement at PAHT during your studies.

Throughout your studies, you will be paid as a band 3, which will change to a band 4 once you have completed the RTP course and are waiting for your registration to be reinstated. Following confirmation of professional registration, you will move to a band 5. This is all dependent on evidence of prior experience.

Kathy Wadhams from Harlow in Essex gave up her nursing career 10 years ago, but is now working in the PAH Outpatients Department, following completion of an RTP course

While studying, Kathy had a nursing placement on Tye Green Ward in PAH. She found working back in a hospital environment extremely useful alongside her theoretical study.

She explained: “Having a placement at PAH was a real asset – it was just like coming home. Being back on the wards was scary at first, but with some excellent mentoring and support from the staff, my confidence has definitely come back.”

RTP courses are run locally at both the University of Hertfordshire and Anglia Ruskin University at their Chelmsford and Cambridge campuses.

Professor Nancy Fontaine, Chief Nurse at the PAHT said, “The Return to Practice programme is excellent, and a great opportunity for nurses to come back to the profession and be supported every step of the way. Nursing and midwifery is a passion that never subsides, so I would urge anyone who is interested to apply for the Return to Practice Recruitment Event.”
