STEWARDS Academy students celebrated becoming “word millionaires” last week, having read more than one million words each in this academic year. In fact collectively, they have read more than 60 million words across 890 books, which is a significant contribution to the total for all year 7-10 students who have read more than 220 million words across over 7,000 books.
To put this into perspective, that’s the equivalent of reading Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (the largest Harry Potter) 855 times, or about 275,000 words per student on average.
If you’re wondering, the word count is calculated by the Renaissance Learning application that is used at the school for testing comprehension once a book has been read.
