FROM Thursday 17th – Sunday 20th March, The Harvey Centre will welcome a team from The Gibberd Gallery in an interactive celebration of the town’s sculpture collection.
The gallery will bring new sculptures to the centre, which echo the original ‘Harlow Family Group’ piece created by renowned sculptor Henry Moore from 1954-55. The new sculptures named ‘Modern Family Group’ will be created out of scrap materials and plaster by The Gibberd Gallery and will be on show by the centre’s play area. The public will be invited to help finish the sculptures, which will be on show in the centre until Sunday 20th March, and will then be moved to another location on a permanent basis.
The project, masterminded by The Gibberd Gallery, is intended to stimulate questions about the various pieces in the town’s sculpture collection, which make up an integral part of the town’s rich cultural history since its creation in 1947.
Bryan Young, Centre Manager at The Harvey Centre says, “We’re really excited to be part of this project. Anyone familiar with Harlow will recognise the town’s fondness of sculpture, so it’s great to be helping to make a new addition to this very important collection.”
