THE event, which was held in the UTC building, attracted nearly 20 organisations, primarily in the fields of Science, Technology, Mathematics and Engineering, to talk about the provision of jobs, apprenticeships and further training for young people in the area. Organisations in attendance included GlaxoSmithKline, Anglia Ruskin University and Princess Alexandra Hospital.
Young people and parents were invited to attend between 10am and 3.30pm to meet with these organisations, along with members of UTC staff and students. Attendees included a number of current students, along with young people from the wider Harlow area.
This year was the first year Sir Charles Kao UTC hosted the event, as part of their wider commitment to linking young people to local and national employers. For students aged 14-19, the University Technical College boasts close links with a number of organisations, including Pearson, Raytheon and Harlow College.
Principal Mike McKeaveney said:
“The event was a great success and will only help the young people of Harlow and the surrounding areas with discovering their options for the future.
I look forward to hosting this event again next year, where we will undoubtedly see more organisations and young people getting involved.”
