Owen LambertA silver medal was won by Harlow Judo Club member Owen Lambert, ten, at the Northern Home Counties Open 2016 in Hornchurch, Essex.

Owen competed in the A Band Minors category facing competitors from very respectable clubs.

He won his fights via Ippon (maximum score) to make it through to the finals where he had to go into extra time in his very last fight.

Unfortunately he made a mistake which cost him the gold medal.

Coach Mick Ellis said: “There was fantastic judo within the weight group and Owen easily proved himself against the other competitors despite being a belt lower.

“I am very pleased with Owen’s performance today – he fought very well, listening to my instructions. I did think he was going to win the gold medal – next time.”

The club caters for those with special needs and has a Coach specifically for this area.

They are based in Foldcroft, Harlow.
