SPORTS RESULTS

EARLIER this month, St Mark’s attended the National Schools Athletics cup held at Chelmsford stadium.

This involved schools from all over the county. The competition is split into Junior Boys/Junior Girls (u13) and Intermediate Boys/Intermediate Girls (u15).

St Mark’s took 52 pupils from Year 8 and 10, with some exceptional performers from years 7 & 9 to compete against other pupils up to a year older than themselves.

The weather was not favourable at all for an athletics competition, with constant rain all day, and heavy showers at times. The national scoring system gives points for the distances thrown/jumped and the times achieved during races, with each competitor taking part in one field and one track event.

Individual events scores give a maximum of 28 points. The pupils performed magnificently achieving some personal best scores and achieving an impressive team score. As you can see, the top 5 achievers scored extremely high points out of a maximum of 56.

These 5 top performers were: Dara Shekoni- 42 points Hassan Ali & Daniel Eby -Thomas -22 points Beth Harryman -40 points Tayo Rajitola – 29 points. Hikmat Year 7 won her 100m race…a star to look out for the future.

Congratulations also go to William Kambarami Year 7 for being awarded Man of the Match at the Year 7/8 Cricket match against Passmores this week.
