She Stoops to Conquer is the production currently in rehearsal by the Moot House Players, directed by Rosemary Caswell. This diary covers their rehearsal process from the first week of rehearsals to the final night. She Stoops to Conquer sees Mr Hardcastle arrange for his daughter to meet Marlowe, the son of a rich Londoner, with the intention for them to marry. But Marlowe’s preference for working class women may leave Kate Hardcastle lonely, unless she can come up with a plan – and quick! The production runs at Moot Hall on the 10th, 11th and 12th of November, and tickets are available from www.moothouseplayers.com or by calling 0333 666 3366. This weeks entry is completed by Dan Powell, who plays Tony Lumpkin.
The choice of play was one I had heard but wasn’t too familiar with, so finding out more about it, whilst developing my character has been very interesting.
Set it is original 18th century context, our director, Rosemary Caswell, has been getting the best out of us & due to her past experience with this & other period pieces, it’s proved pivotal.
My character, Tony, is mischievous, yet oddly charming. I like to use the term “lovable rogue” to describe him. His mothers plans to marry him off with his cousin displeases him immensely, so he makes it his plan to marry her off to anyone who will have her. Of course it isn’t as easy as that, especially with a mother like his, so he’s in need of elaborate plans!
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with this cast, which includes a few new people. I believe we’re putting together a great show & the array of talent is something you can’t afford to miss.
