WITH over 900 players, 140 clubs and 9 countries competing over 2 days at this event, it was always going to be a tough competition. The first day, Harlow Judo Club had 2 players compete at this prestigious event. There was tough international competition but Harlow’s 2 players fought well. Giacomo Misuraca (14) battled hard and unfortunately didn’t make it through to a medal position. He finished a very respectable 5th place but gained valuable fighting experience. Next up was Thomas Lambert (15) who overcome an Algerian Brown belt in the early stages of the competition and was narrowly beaten in the final, came away with a very creditable Silver medal.
Head Coach, Mick Ellis, said that he was pleased with both players who fought well throughout the day.
The second day consisted of the younger players and Harlow sent in a group of 9 players for this event. The squad did particularly well. In some of the weight categories, these were split into 2 groups and eventually ended with the 2 groups crossing over for the finals and Club players competing against each other for the Gold and Silver medals.
Harlow Judo Club returned with a superb collection of medals with Gold medals won by Charlie Armstrong (9) and Owen Lambert (11), Silver medals won by Macey Brown (8), Sam Cobbin-Brown (9) and Kane Horsley (11) and Bronze medals going to George Franks (10). Ralfy Webb (9), Kenzie Deamer (10) and Seth Horsley (9) were unplaced with tough opposition in their respective groups.
Head Coach Mick Ellis, assisted by Junior Lead Coach, Sarah Brown, was very pleased at how well the squad competed overall during the 2 days. Coach Mick said “The standard of competition was very high and for the squad to come away with medals is a great achievement. I’m very pleased at how well my Squad and the Club are doing so far.”
