, it was a very testing competition for the U11’s but for the 12-16 age group, the competition was more difficult. An Open Competition meant that in a particular age group, any player can be any grade therefore depending on how the pools are selected, there could be a novice player (Red belt) up against a more experienced player (Yellow/Orange/Green/Blue/Brown belt).
In the age 8 to 11 year old category, Owen Lambert (11) won the Gold medal in his weight group. Bronze medals went to Ralfy Webb (9) and Charlie Armstrong (9) in their respective weight groups.
In the 12 to 16 year old category, Thomas Lambert (15) took the Gold medal in his weight group. Unfortunately Giacomo Misuraca (14) was placed 5th but he was up against more experienced players to include a brown belt in his group. He put in a fantastic effort despite only taking up the sport within the last 12 months and suffered a minor injury in the process.
“All my players fought extremely well and as always, will take more than a medal and valuable experience away with them” said Head Coach, Mick Ellis.
