Midland Area Age Band Championships – Walsall

Young Owen Lambert, (11) represented Harlow Judo Club and travelled to Walsall to compete in the Midland Area Age Band Judo Championships to compete in the Minors Age Band category. This event was held in the Centre of Excellence renowned for its fantastic judo training. This is the first of a handful of very high level Judo competitions in this calendar year. The competition was restricted to competitors born within specific age bands, hence it being Age Banded.

Owen won his first fight comfortably and unfortunately lost his second fight due to a mistake which meant that the youngster dropped down to the repecharge (compound knockout) and unfortunately, was unable to compete for the Gold/Silver medals. Owen went on to win the remainder of his fights to eventually claim the first of 2 Bronze medals.

There was fantastic judo throughout the event and despite it being a very long day, Owen returned home with a medal.

Coach Mick Ellis said a silly mistake cost his young player a higher medal placing, adding “There is always lots to take away and work on in training. Next year he will compete as a Pre-Cadet so there is much to look forward to.”

The Club caters for those with special needs and has a Coach specifically for this area. Please contact the Club for more details. They are based in Foldcroft, Harlow, CM20 1SE.
