THE tradition of story telling was the centre of attention at Kiddi Caru’s Harlow day nursery, when the children celebrated National Story Telling Week recently.
Running from January 28th to February 4th, National Story Telling Week is organised by the Society for Storytelling to promote the tradition of storytelling and highlight its importance as a way of sharing life experiences and developing creativity.
Each member of staff brought their favourite book into the nursery to share with the children and the parents were invited to let the nursery know what their child’s favourite story is, so a huge display could be made featuring all of the different characters from each story. In addition Nursery Manager Louise Farrow read her favourite book, Supposing by Frances Thomas, to all of the children. This deals with the subjects of bad dreams and fear of being alone.
Louise Farrow, Nursery Manager, said: “The children love any opportunity to use their imaginations and dress up, so Story Telling Week was a great success. It was a fun week but also had real value as this type of activity helps little ones to develop their communication and creative skills.”
