FIVE young players from Harlow Judo Club travelled to High Wycombe to compete in the Northern Home Counties Orange & Below competition. Four players fought in the 8-11 age group and one player fought in the 12-15 age group.

George Franks (10) fought first in his weight group. Unfortunately having fought hard, he was unable to progress any further than the compound knockout event and after three fights, and was unable to medal. Next up were Sam Cobbin-Brown (10) and Fionn Healy (11) who both competed in the same weight group. Both boys battled hard against their individual opponents and ultimately ended up fighting each other for the 1st and 2nd bronze medals. Owen Lambert (11) was the last to fight in this particular age group and won all five fights via Ippon (maximum score) to dominate his own weight group to take the Gold medal. Last up was Giacomo Misuraca (14) to compete in the 12-15 age group and won all 3 of his fights to take the Gold medal too. There was some super ashi-waza (ankle technique) from this young judoka who caught his opponents off-guard in his last 2 fights.

Coach Mick Ellis said “I am very pleased with the team’s performance today – they all fought very well and listened to my instructions”.

The Club caters for those with special needs and has a Coach specifically for this area. Please contact the Club for more details. They are based in Foldcroft, Harlow, CM20 1SE.
