READING fans are in for a treat at the first ever Essex Authors’ Day.

The event, which will take place at Chelmsford Library on Saturday (18 March), offers anyone interested in books or writing the chance to meet more than 50 authors from across the county.

Signed copies of the authors’ books are available to buy, with trade stands run by local publishers, writing groups and seminars, and a special programme of storytelling for children also on offer.

The day is free and will run from 10am to 3pm. There is no need to book in advance, as you can sign up for workshops on the day.

Cllr Anne Brown, Essex County Council Cabinet Member responsible for libraries, said: “I am delighted that so many fantastic authors are coming together as part of Essex Authors’ Day. The work they do to inspire, amuse and entertain readers all over our county is hugely important and this promises to be a wonderful event.”

Authors appearing include Stephen Massie, Elaine Day, Liz Trenow, Owen Knight, Ralph Jackman, Barbara Nadel, Molly Looby, Sarah Armstrong, Dee Gordon, Andrew Summers, Laurie Ellingham, Patrick Forsyth and Dr. Chris McCully.
