HARLOW Penguins Swimming Club hosted a successful Development Meet at the Harlow Leisurezone with 236 swimmers competing from across the region.

There were a number of very strong performances from the Harlow Penguins with a lot of swimmers achieving Personal Bests in multiple events. Particular congratulations to the following Penguins who won races; Brianna Hansen-Hoare (9 year olds 50m Backstroke), Lottie Doble (10 year olds 50m Backstroke), Harry Pasquariello (10 year olds 50m Freestyle), Chloe Martin (11 year olds 50m Backstroke), Ethan Ryan (11 year olds 50m Breastroke), Kasey Bradley (11 year olds 50m Butterfly), and Adam Fearon (who impressively won both the 50m Breastroke and 50m Freestyle events for 13 year olds).

This meet represents the continued rise of the Harlow Penguins following the closure of the old Harlow swimming pool in 2007 which had a devastating effect on the club. The club has gone from strength to strength since the opening of the terrific new Harlow Leisurezone pool in 2010. The club now has 491 active swimming members and had 71 swimmers qualify to compete in last month’s Essex County Championships.

The Penguins recently secured Harlow based Custom Lofts as their new main sponsor. Andy Jamieson, Harlow Penguins Chairman, commented; “Having a respected local company sponsor our club has been a target for a while now and I am delighted that in Custom Lofts we have found the perfect fit.”

The Penguins competed in the second round of the Essex Mini League at Saffron Walden on Saturday 11th March and achieved a hard fought win having also won their first round meet in Southend last month.
