Athletics: HRC Ladies perform well in midweek league

HARLOW Running Club competed in the second round of the Herts/Essex Mid Week
Road Race League Div 2 last week, on a warm and muggy evening and over a very
undulating 10K course at Stevenage. Once again the ladies team out performed the
men, finishing in 2nd place out of 6 teams with the men finishing in 5th place
and overall Harlow finished in 4th place.

After two rounds Harlow lie in 4th place with 15 points with North Herts Road Runners top with 24 points.

In the ladies race Sharon Wright finished in a fantastic 2nd place out of 106
finishers in 42min 37sec. She was followed home by Carinne Jay 5th and 1st
Female Vet 45 in 43.53, Julia Gardiner 9th in 45.32 and Paula Reynolds 10th in
45.32. Debbie Barry finished in 42nd place and 1st Female Vet 55 in 52.08 and
Paulene Galoppi was 100th and 3rd Female Vet 65 in 65.28. In the men’s race Rob
Lowe finished in 21st place out of 176 finishers in a superb 37.28. Craig Segal
was 32nd in 38.38, Alex Smith 39th in 39.03 and Danny McCree 41st in 39.13. Jim
Bates finished in 146th place and 3rd Vet 70 in 53.17.

Meanwhile, also on a warm and muggy Bank Holiday Monday, HRC field a total of 47
runners at the Hatfield Broad Oak 10K. Rich Hynes finished in 18th place out of
1222 finishers in an excellent 37min 21sec. He was followed by Craig Segal 37th
in 39.11, Alex Smith 43rd in 39.36 and Darren Tiley 59th in a PB time of 40.20.
First female in 183rd place was Paula Reynolds in 45.10 followed by Julia
Gardiner 188th in 45.17 and Sandra Rust 267th in 47.26.

At the Dorchester Marathon in Dorset Michael Houlihan finished in 101st place
out of 715 finishers in 3hrs 47min 24sec and Sean Flynn was 293rd in 4.22.57.

At the Kent Circuit Marathon, run on several 1.29 mile laps of the Kent
Cyclopark in North West Kent, Martyn Coulter finished in 51st place out of 259
finishers in 3hrs 50min 01sec and Andy Kinney was 253rd in 6.14.23

At the European Aquathlon Championships in Bratislava, Slovakia, Andrew Kitson
finished the 1km swim & 5km run in 8th place out of 20 finishers in the Male 40
– 44 age group in 35min 48sec.
Two days later Kitson competed in the Vitality London 10,000 metres, finishing
in 479th place out of 12,400 finishers in a PB time of 38min 28sec.

At Harlow parkrun 5k Danny McCree was 1st finisher out of 200 finishers in 19min
13sec. He was followed by Barry Mooney 3rd in 19.35, Sharon Wright 6th in 21.03,
Ben Usher 7th in 21.26, Martin Westley 13th in 22.49, Craig Segal 14th in 22.50,
Graham Saville 19th in 23.23, Viloa Tam 25th in 24.01, Spencer Brooks 26th in
24.01, Darren Tiley 27th in 24.02, Andy Smith 31st in 24.38, Catherine Ridge
36th in 24.47, Alan Cootes 38th in 24.52, Jim Bates 43rd in 25.56, Paul Schroder

20.20, Andy Bradley 43rd in 22.55, Justin Patten 83rd in 25.06, Martin McColgan
108th in 26.05, David Page 147th in 27.33, Janice Page 172nd in 28.45 and Brenda
Clayton 229th in 31.21.

At the Windermere parkrun 5k in Cumbria Daniel Jephcott finished in 4th place
out of 218 finishers in 18min 57sec.
