Judo Stort

A GROUP of six novice young competitors from Harlow Judo Club made their way to Bishops Stortford to compete in the Bishops Stortford Red Belt Rumble competition. The team consisted of Millie Morgan (8), Jack Loft (8), Harry Franks (9), Robert Badaru (8), Thomas Norman (10) and David Franks-Whelan (11).

All the groups were in pools of 4 players. Millie was up first. She fought hard and despite losing her contests, she came away with a Bronze medal. 3 more Bronze medals were won by Jack, Harry and David who all battled in their respective pools, to the best of their ability but unfortunately their opponents, some from very good Clubs, were better on the day. Silver medals were won by Robert and Thomas. Robert could have taken the Gold medal but as he up against a good quality opponent, it was going to be a tough final. The same can also be said for Thomas. He was a waza-ari score (5 points) in the lead but unfortunately his opponent ipponed him (10 points) to snatch the Gold from his grasp.

Coach Mick Ellis said “I have to say that I am extremely proud of my new group of young red belt competitors. For some it is their very first competition since turning 8 years old and for the others, it is their third competition. As nervous as they were, they should all be very proud of themselves”.

The Club caters for those with special needs and has a Coach specifically for this area. Please contact the Club for more details. They are based in Foldcroft, Harlow, CM20 1SE.
