Gymnastics: Boys impress at East Region

2017 East Region Boys Recreational Competition 9th July 2017

MEDALS galore for Harlow Gymnastics Club at the East Region Recreational Boys Competition in Ipswich. The Harlow Gymnasts were competing against representatives from some of the most influential Men’s Artistic Gymnastics clubs in the UK such as Huntingdon and South Essex, who have produced Olympic and International medalists including Louis Smith, Brinn Bevan and Max Whitlock.

There was a clean sweep in the Under 12’s event with Harlow gymnasts placing in all the three top overall positions. Daniel Capodici (11) placed 1st overall after winning three gold medals for rings, vault & high-bar, as well as 6th position on floor. Harry Ferguson (12) placed 2nd overall, was awarded with the silver medal on parallel-bars and placed 5th on both rings & vault. Churchgate Primary pupil Mateo Reynald-Abad (11) placed 3rd overall, received the bronze medal on p-bar, placed 5th on floor & 6th on h-bar. Stanley Broughton (11) finished 16th overall after placing 6th on p-bar. Jack Millward (12) placed 4th on floor and finished in 19th place overall.

Further success in the U16 event, with Kieran McMahon (15) winning the gold medal on rings as well as placing 5th on p-bar and 6th on vault, finishing in 5th place overall. Matthew Brough (14) finished in 8th position overall, after placing 6th on both rings and h-bar. Mitchell March (13) placed 12th overall and 6th on p-bar.

Little Parndon Primary pupil Hrissian Gunov (10) received bronze medals on both rings and p-bar as well as placing 4th on rings, finishing in 7th position overall in the Under 10’s event. Elliot Buck (9) placed 6th on vault finishing in 15th position overall, with teammate Jak Bogue (9) narrowly behind in 16th overall position after placing 6th on rings. Max Riddle (8) placed 18th overall, in the same competition.

Head Boys Coach and club co-owner Peter James said. “From a coaches view, it’s brilliant that our boys are able to compete against gymnasts from the biggest Men’s Artistic Gymnastics clubs in the UK and are bringing home some medals. Massive congratulations to the gymnasts and I’m very proud of you all”
