Awards Leg

THE Harvey Centre is proud to announce that it won the award for Community Engagement in the first ever Harlow Town Centre Awards, which were held in July.

The awards were developed to celebrate Harlow Town Centre, its businesses and employees in its 70th anniversary year, partnered by Harlow Council and The Phoenix Resource Centre. There were 13 awards covering a range of services and activities that take place in the town centre and were split into two judging categories – public voted and panel awarded.

The town centre has played a significant role in the shaping of the new town in its 70 years and the awards are a great way of honouring those, who, over the last year have made their mark, gone the extra mile or made a significant contribution to the town. The awards will now become an annual event in the town’s calendar with future opportunities to celebrate achievements within the town.

A number of tenants in The Harvey Centre walked away with awards, namely:

· HMV – Retailer of the Year
· Cineworld – Leisure Retailer of the Year
· Legends – Professional Service of the Year
· Couzen’s Bakery – Customer Service of the Year
· Couzen’s Bakery – Food & Drink Retailer of the Year
· Couzen’s Bakery – Small & Independent Business of the Year
· Gina Birchmore (Tesco) – Employee of the Year
· Sharon Whitlock (Vision Express) – Manager of the Year
· Amanda Westbury (Gibberd Gallery & Gatehouse Arts) – Award for Outstanding Achievement

Other winners on the night included:
· Lauren Barrows, Harlow Council – Harlow College Award for Apprenticeships
· Streets2Homes – Community & Voluntary Based Project Of The Year
· Harlowsave Credit Union – Professional Service Of The Year

Bryan Young, Centre Manager at The Harvey Centre said, “We’re thrilled to have won the award for Community Engagement and we are really proud of all of our tenants that won on the night – they were all very deserving. One of the key factors in achieving our success has been the support shown by Harlow Town Council whose vision we share for the whole town centre. There are very exciting things to come!”

Cllr Tony Durcan, Portfolio Holder for Regeneration and Enterprise said, “Harlow Town Centre isn’t just about shops and shopping. These awards celebrated the diversity of skills and knowledge of the people who make the town centre work – the very workers that enable, support and deliver high class services to our community. This was our town recognising and saying thank you to these people via this year’s awards programme.”

Cllr Tony Durcan continued, “Due to the positive energy and feedback we would like this to become a regular yearly event, something that showcases how our town centre is achieving so much. We should celebrate and be proud of all our town centre employers and employees.”
