LAST Tuesday, there was a huge fire near Lakeside in Thurrock. Why are we telling you about a fire thirty miles away?

We are telling you because that is where the Harlow turntable ladder was. Up until July that aerial ladder platform (ALP) was based in Harlow.

It is now based in Southend but it still has the word “Harlow” on the side.

The fire took several hours to put out. What it meant was that Harlow was left exposed.

We know it is something that Harlow councillor, Mike Danvers feels strongly about. We will be catching up with him later in the week.

Last week, Harlow’s ruling Labour cabinet discussed the fire safety and regulation.

It is going to cost Harlow Council an extra £1 million. But if a fire had started at Spring Hills or Nichol
