Love and marriage come under the spotlight for Harlow Theatre Company

HTC are offering a mini-season presenting two well-loved comedies highlighting the lighter side of love and marriage.

Opening next week, “Bedroom Farce” is one of Alan Ayckbourn’s most popular comedies. Following a pair of roving neurotics who hawk their marital conflicts around the bedrooms of three other couples, middle class marriage, sustained more by habit than mutual excitement, are on show. Drama ensues when the chaos of a split threatens all the relationships in the play.

Following in November, Noel Coward’s classic “Blithe Spirit” takes the stage, bringing back the iconic Madame Arcati, made famous by the memorable film performance of Margaret Rutherford. This hapless psychic accidently summons up the spirit of Charles’s late wife, much to the chagrin of his current wife and life gets turned upside down!

Director of Bedroom Farce, Barry Bowen says: “Bedroom Farce and Blithe Spirit both present an opportunity for performers and audiences alike to have a lot of fun. Putting familiar relationships under the microscope allows us to reflect and laugh at life and some of the farcical behaviours we recognise, relate to, and which sometimes ring an uncomfortable bell!”

“It has also been an opportunity to introduce new and incredibly talented people to the company – both onstage and behind the scenes –, bringing new ideas with them and learning from our more experienced members. It’s very exciting for the future of theatre in Harlow.”

Bedroom Farce opens at The Victoria Hall Theatre, Old Harlow, on Wednesday 27th September, running until Saturday 30th September. Blithe Spirit, also at The Victoria Hall Theatre, runs from Wednesday 22nd to Saturday 25th November. Tickets available now at https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/harlowtheatrecompany
