The advert gives potential buyers a number of options including “Development Opportunity, To Let, For Sale Freehold, For Sale Leasehold”.

The development will come as no surprise to many Harlow residents who have seen the library. just close to the Water Gardens, diminish in staure over recent years.

Essex County Council are keen to allay fears regarding the whole library being sold off. The mood music seems to be that a large portion of the area could be sold off for retail or leisure and a form of library might remain.

Cabinet Member for Culture, Communities and Customer, Cllr Susan Barker said: “We are looking to maximise the use of excess space in our libraries to ensure we can deliver more, for less, for Essex residents.

“To do this, we have taken out advertising space to explore potential opportunities to collaborate at Harlow Library with suitable partners.

“This is only the very early stages and we will update the public as soon as we have any more news.”
