Yolanda Brown

TWO time MOBO Winner YolanDa Brown releases her stunning sophomore album Love Politics War in summer 2017. The new album features special guests Bill Laurance (pianist from multiple Grammy winners Snarky Puppy), Floacist, from Grammy winning UK group Floetry, Dame Evelyn Glennie (3 X Grammy winning percussionist), and vocalists Phebe Edwards and Raheem Devaughn.

YolanDa commented: “This time around I wanted to create an album that reflected the current state of the world with its political tensions and its numerous uprisings and protests – with the underlying message that love conquers all.”

Yolanda will be playing Harlow Playhouse on Saturday November 4th.

Love Politics War follows the success of her debut album April Showers and May Flowers, which debuted at No.1 on both the iTunes and Amazon Jazz charts. Her latest 2016 UK tour ‘Reggae Love Songs’ saw her perform at the Proms at the Royal Albert Hall as well as headlining the Barbican London Jazz Festival.

2017 sees Brown touring over 20 dates this Autumn, including a tour as special guest for Billy Ocean as well as embarking on her solo album tour. She will also be presenting a BBC4 Proms special in August.

YolanDa’s Love Politics War features an eclectic mix of genres, touching on jazz, soul and reggae. Stand out tracks from the new album include lead sax track ‘Million Billion Love’ and ‘No More War’ feat. Phebe Edwards. Million Billion Love opens the album with a warm jazzy feel as YolanDa dances around the main hook before reeling off on a fiery solo over polyrhythmic reggae percussion patterns. No More War featuring Phebe Edwards superimposes the gospel intensity of her vocals over a sultry reggae blues. The track peaks as Brown’s solo enters, escalating towards the highest register of her instrument, expending astounding energy and emotion.

Barking born Brown is the UK’s leading female saxophonist with a flourishing career. She has been selected as a celebrity ambassador for many organisations including the Prince’s Trust, Children and the Arts, Plan UK, Mayor’s Music Fund and Greater London Assembly’s “Learn Music London” Campaign. She has also been invited to meet the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh at Buckingham Palace.

YolanDa studied to PhD level and was selected by Gordon Brown as one of the top 30 black students in the UK. She has also been awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Arts by the University of East London. This year she has performed on a British Airways flight with Nicole Sherzinger en route to Mardi Gras in New Orleans and is currently writing a series of children’s books as well as having a burgeoning parallel career as a broadcaster for TV and radio. In her spare time – if there is any after all that – she enjoys racing fast cars! A real renaissance woman, set to reach new heights in 2017 with her finest album to date.
