COMMUNITY leaders and representatives from Harlow’s charities joined volunteers and staff to mark the retirement of the chief executive of one of Harlow’s best known and well-regarded charities. Jackie Sully, CEO of Rainbow Services, retired on Friday (Oct 27th), marking the end of an impressive career spent championing the cause of voluntary organisations in the town.

Jackie founded the charity in 1999, since when it has won several business awards as well as becoming accredited under a variety of industry and sector standards.
Beyond Rainbow, Jackie has been a passionate advocate for the Harlow community and the local voluntary sector. In addition to a career spent working to improve the lot of local people, Jackie has taken many other roles, including Chair of the Local Strategic Partnership, a role more usually associated with leaders from the public or private sectors, and been an award winner in her own right.

Rainbow’s chair, Chris Greenhill commented; ‘When Jackie founded Rainbow she created an entirely new type of charity for the town, one that was flexible and innovative, and able to respond quickly to changing local need. Her drive and determination has been the cornerstone of Rainbow’s success ever since. She is widely liked and respected in the Essex charity world and will be a great loss to the sector as well as to Rainbow. We wish her all happiness in her well-deserved retirement.’

Jackie plans to spend more time with her family here and in Australia.
