HARLOW music lovers should brace themselves for something quite extraordinary on Thursday 30th November!

As a recent review said, “…get your feet tapping and your jaw dropping at the speed of his fingers. Top quality musicianship and utter entertainment”.

The young genius who grabbed the reviewer’s attention is Ben Holder, probably the most gifted swing violinist to emerge since Stephane Grapelli.

Ben will be returning, for one night only, with John Petters Swing Band, as part of a nationwide tour, at St John’s Arts Centre, (Market St, Old Harlow, CM17 0AJ) @ 8pm.

Taught classically from the age of six, Ben studied at the Birmingham Conservatoire. During his studies, Ben discovered Jazz – swing masters such as Benny Goodman and of course the great jazz violinists, Stephane Grappelli, Joe Venuti and the awe inspiring African American, Stuff Smith.

Driven by a passion for this wonderful music from 80 years ago, Ben’s curiosity led him to a detailed study in the way these hot musicians merged this most classical of instruments into the ‘jazz’ idiom.

Ben’s innate sense of swing (something which often eludes classical players) stems from those early listening sessions – and his various awards bear testimony to his abilities.

Expect a programme which includes American Songbook items “Cheek to Cheek”, which was recently recorded by Lady Ga Ga and Tony Bennett, to Fats Waller’s, “Ain’t Misbehavin’, Gerswin’s “Lady Be Good” and “Liza”and much more.

A first call jazz violinist for many of the North’s top bands and studios, Ben will take the stage alongside popular, star pianist, J J Vinten, Harlow bass ace, Keith Donald and ex Harlow drummin’ man, John Petters for what promises to be an evening of musical fireworks of dazzling quality.

Admission is just £10. Get there early – for this is guaranteed to be a concert to remember for those lucky enough to attend
