The Importance of Family

FAMILIES are much more than groups of individuals. They have their own goals and aspirations. They also are places where every child and adult should feel that he or she is special and be encouraged to pursue his or her own dreams; a place where everyone’s individuality is permitted to flourish. Although every family has conflicts, all the family members should feel as though they can express themselves openly, share their feelings, and have their opinions listened to with understanding. In fact, conflicts and disagreements are a normal part of family life and are important insofar as they permit people to communicate their differences and ventilate their feelings.

In weak-family areas, the value attributed to the individual and to individualism tends to predominate. Young adults leave home, encouraged by their parents, so as to acquire the experiences they need to handle life as autonomous individuals. Leaving home at an early age is considered an important part of their education. Where the strong family flourishes, the familial group more than the individual tends to predominate in the socialisation of the young. In these contexts, the family is seen as defending its members against the difficulties imposed by social and economic realities. A child receives support and protection until he or she leaves home for good, normally for marriage, and even later.

The family systems works like a chain. Younger people learn from elders while elders depend on their kids for a lot of things. When kids grow up, get married and have their own children, the whole cycle is repeated again. Family members will always come to your rescue whenever you need them. They always support you in different ways whether it be financial or moral. You can always share your problems with your family and you always find a better solution for your problems after a discussion in the house. We can’t make it out without our family in life. It is one of the greatest blessings of God. We often meet people who lost their family for one reason or the other. We have noticed that such people have a very imbalanced personality, mainly because their family was not there when it was needed. People who leave their family and go out to the world to do everything on their own, often turn to be the bad characters of the society. This is because they lack the training they missed from the family. Even if one of the parents is missing, it makes a huge difference in developing personality of a child. There is always something lacking in them.

Younger people these days often consider family a burden over themselves and try to get away from them. They actually fail to realize that family is the group that has made them so strong to face the world without any help.

Mutual affection, trust and distribution of responsibilities in the family are the things that strengthen this relationship. All the good in us is due to our family. It is not inborn. We have learnt it from our families. Our family has made us strong enough to face this cruel world where everyone is selfish and considers himself first before anyone else.

Considering all these aspects, we can say, family is one of the greatest gifts of nature to us. I think togetherness is a very important ingredient to family life.
