Councillor Joel Charles, who represents Old Harlow on Harlow District Council, said:
“I am disappointed that Harlow Council’s Planning Committee has approved a modification to the existing permission covering the Churchgate Hotel development to accept a financial contribution from the developer, instead of building much-needed affordable housing.
“Old Harlow needs the right mix of housing so that local people have the best opportunity to find a new home.
“The one positive outcome of the committee meeting was a stronger commitment to use the developer’s financial contribution to build affordable housing in Old Harlow within the next two years.”
