ALMOST 200 women and girls in Harlow have enjoyed the first ever This Girl Can Essex festival.

From hula hooping and HiiT to trampolining and yoga, the free festival offered taster sessions for a range of sports and activities with the aim of encouraging girls and women to either try something new or take their first steps to becoming more active in a fun and friendly atmosphere.

The festival, held at Stewards Academy, was one of four that took place around the county and was organised by This Girl Can Essex ambassadors who showcased some of the fantastic sports available in the local community. The event also offered health and wellbeing workshops on coping with stress and women’s health.

Other taster sessions included jazz, dancefit, boccia, Pilates, and even aqua aerobics. There were also sport and leisure market stalls and the opportunity to get a free health check.

There are now over 350 This Girl Can Essex ambassadors across Essex who inspire women in their local community to get active, meet new people and have fun. The ambassador programme is run by Active Essex, the county sport partnership, and it is part of their ambition to change 1 million lives by getting Essex active.

This Girl Can Essex ambassador Kelly Harman said: “It was really exciting to host the first ever This Girl Can Essex Festival and celebrate Women’s Fitness and Health. We hope everyone had lots of fun and use the festival to increase the levels of physical activity that they do and explore some more of the fabulous activities that we have here in Harlow.”
