A NUMBER of sports clubs have left the Mark Hall Sports Centre after what has been described as a “massive price increase”.
In November, clubs were informed by letter of an increase in sports hall hire.
In a letter seen by YH, General Manager, Paul Riches told customers that this is the first increase for nine years.
He said: “The increase may be seen as excessive…after researching similar venues locally the revised prices remain in line with common pricing structure”.
Details of increases:
Court Hire: £8 to £12 an hour (for members)
More than four members, court price rises to £20 an hour.
No discounts during school holidays.
YH understands that at least three clubs are no longer using Mark Hall Sports Centre. They are Harlow Jujitsu Club, Harlow Badminton Club and Harlow Town Cricket Club.
Harlow Jujitsu Club’s Earl Walker said: “This price increase was too much for us. We have found alternatives around the town and beyond.”
In November, the company that runs Mark Hall (The Academy Trasnformation Trust) posted a £2.7 million deficit.
YH contacted Mark Hall Sports Centre but did not receive a reply.
Eight to twenty pounds an hour seems quite cheap. Two badminton players equates to four pounds each. Something for nothing bunches of cheap skates.
