THE finalists for the British Parking Awards have been announced and the North Essex Parking Partnership (NEPP) has been shortlisted for the Communication Award category.

Having previously won the British Parking Awards ‘Parking Partnership’ category in 2012, shortlisted as a finalist in 2016 for ‘Parking Team of the Year’ and winning Gold in the ‘Business Blog’ category at the Essex Digital Awards in 2016, NEPP is keen to show the judges another successful area of its organisation.

The North Essex Parking Partnership launched its @nepp_parking Twitter page in December 2016 to improve the understanding of parking rules, challenge perceptions of enforcement, address topical parking related issues and engage with motorists across North Essex.

Like the NEPP’s award winning blog ‘Anna Tendant’, its Twitter page uses a mix of serious and light-hearted posts, set in a positive tone. It uses a range of interactive proactive messages, quizzes, images and topical hashtags, alongside consistent helpful replies to enquiries to increase engagement and, likes and re-tweets.

Not only have the messages themselves proved to be popular, but they have also generated conversations and people sharing content with one another increasing the reach of the NEPP’s messaging. Since its launch, engagement doubled from 14.4k to 28.8k.

Councillor Mitchell, Chairman of On-Street Parking at North Essex Parking Partnership, said: “I’m incredibly proud that the NEPP’s Twitter page has been shortlisted for these national awards. The informative and well-read posts are proving a useful tool for the organisation to strengthen our education and engagement with local motorists.”

The NEPP’s Twitter messaging helps support the national Positive Parking Agenda (PPA) initiative, of which it is a member. The PPA aims to build public confidence in the parking sector and to change perceptions and challenge misconceptions about the parking sector.

The British Parking Awards, originally launched in 2002, seeks to recognise and celebrate best practice, innovation and achievement in the design and management of both public and private sector parking.

The British Parking Awards winners will be announced at the Awards Ceremony on Friday 9 March at Royal Lancaster, London.
