A range of interesting activities and lessons were organised which kept the pupils on their toes and introduced them to new concepts and ideas. Experiences included testing acid and alkaline substances in science and writing and performing their own poetry in English. There was an unexpected twist on maths when pupils eagerly spent a morning creating maze puzzles and tessellations in a ‘maths meets art’ workshop.

As well as classroom based learning, the pupils also took part in a careers event organised in conjunction with Harlow College. The youngsters had the chance to experience seven different careers which ranged from building and thatching a roof, to hairdressing and hand massages.

Passmores Careers Co-ordinator, Tammy Bassett said: ‘this was a really successful event with all pupils fully engaged in the activities. The children tried everything out, and even if it wasn’t their usual preference, they all got involved.’

Head of Purford Green Primary and Potter Street Academy, Emma Bloomfield added: ‘Transition to secondary school can be a stressful time for any child so to have the opportunity to spend a week experiencing day to day life at Passmores really supports our children. By the time Purford Green and

Potter Street pupils transfer schools at the end of Year 6, Passmores is like a second home to them and the move becomes seamless. We are always looking for different ways to enhance learning opportunities, and the activities organised by Passmores and Harlow College allow our children to apply their learning in different situations and takes learning outside of the four walls of their classroom’.
