ESSEX Firefighters were called to reports of a large field fire this afternoon.

On arrival, crews advised that around five acres of the field and several trees were alight.

The incident commander requested the support of a Pinzgauer – an off road vehicle which is able to tackle fires in otherwise difficult terrain – to help get the fire under control.

Firefighters extinguished much of the fire using beaters and backpack sprayers and were able to extinguish it completely by 5.40pm.
