Harlow Council to host Holocaust Memorial Day Service

History / Tue 22nd Jan 2019 at 02:05pm

HARLOW Council is hosting this year’s Holocaust Memorial Day service at the Civic Centre on Sunday 27 January 2019.

The service is open to all and will start at 5pm. Razed Roof will be taking part and the service will be led by Rabbi Irit Shillor from the Harlow Jewish Community, together with members of other communities in the town.

Torn from Home is the theme for Holocaust Memorial Day 2019. Torn from Home encourages audiences to reflect on how the enforced loss of a safe place to call ‘home’ is part of the trauma faced by anyone experiencing persecution and genocide. ‘Home’ usually means a place of safety, comfort and security.

HMD 2019 will include marking the 25th anniversary of the Genocide in Rwanda, which began in April 1994 and the 40th anniversary of the end of the Genocide in Cambodia, which ended in 1979.
