Primark introduce “Gender Neutral” changing rooms at their store in Harlow

PRIMARK has introduced gender neutral changing rooms at its site in Harlow. It means everyone gets changed in the same area without it being separated by gender.

On Monday, a mother and daughter went into the changing rooms at the store on Broad Walk to be told by a member of staff that the changing rooms were now gender neutral.

They later contacted YH. They said: “I was quite shocked, I had only been there the previous week and that was not the case.

“I felt very uncomfortable with the idea. It has nothing to do with prejudice, it has everything to do with privacy.”

The changing rooms consist of a number of cubicles with a curtain and not locked doors.

Earlier this year, Primark had introduced gender neutral changing rooms to just two stores at Bluewater in Kent and Hastings, Sussex.

A Primark spokesperson said: “It has been our policy for some time that all customers are welcome to use the fitting rooms of their choice in our stores.

“We have introduced gender-neutral fitting rooms in some of our stores to improve the customer experience, as part of our latest in-store design.”
