THIS Wednesday The Gibberd Gallery asks you to join them for an evening of special events.

6.30pm: Cast your vote for the People’s Choice award and find out which images have been awarded prizes by this year’s special guest judges of our Open|Open exhibition.

7pm: Watch our screening of Sculpture Town – a short film about Harlow’s sculpture collection – and discuss with the artist Nicholas Smith.

8pm: Have your views on the future of the Gibberd Gallery and sculpture collection heard at the Friends of Harlow Sculpture and Gibberd Gallery annual general meeting and find out how you can support and/or get involved.

About the Open|Open exhibition..

As a post-war new town, Harlow was carefully planned from start to finish by landscape architect and master planner Sir Frederick Gibberd. The Open|Open is about intervening in this environment and seeing it afresh. All images in the exhibition were sent by entrants responding to the following brief:

Place something – anything – somewhere within the parameters of Harlow Town (postcodes CM17 to CM20) and photograph it. This is an opportunity to compose, juxtapose, intervene, disrupt, counterbalance, contrive, accentuate and generally explore relationships between things and their environment. When we say something we really do mean some ‘thing’: a readymade object, a drawing, a sculpture, a painting, model, performance, natural form, a print, a dialogue, an architectural form, a mineral, a vegetable (just not an animal.)

Refreshments will be provided. This is a free event.
